25 years
Just a small article to wish an happy birthday to Pseudo Saturn
I'm not sure about the exact birth date of Pseudo Saturn, but it seems to be around July 7th, 2014 as it was announced on Assembler Games forums at that date. The first commit of source code was on the next day, and as contributors of this projects are spread around several time zones, it's difficult to give an exact birth date.
It is July 6th here, so I'm one day early to wish happy birthday to Pseudo Saturn, but as I will busy at home tomorrow (with non-Saturn things), and busy at work the day after tomorrow (with non-Saturn things too), it's better to wish this now than three months late
Now that I realize this project is already 5 years old, I feel a bit old But as at the moment of Pseudo Saturn initial release I was waiting for my turn of heavy surgery, it's cool to be alive 5 years after theses dark days for me
It's not an "I'm tired to continue that" farewell nor an "Everything is perfect in this project, so it should stay eternally as-is"; in fact Pseudo Saturn Kai was a reason to live (even if chemo is painful, or scars from surgery are hurting, or dudes at day work are boring), so I don't have plans to dump this project in a near future But on the other hand, I would like some extra time for other projects : I shall return back to Pseudo Saturn Kai development if theses other projects fail, or when I will miss the good old smell of Pseudo Saturn Kai source code
I was a bit in lack inspiration when choosing a closing picture, so please enjoy one about Vegeta from my collection. I choose another picture of Vegeta in recovery machine as profile picture when registering on AG forums 5 years ago, to wish me a good recovery during relatively long (expected 3-5 weeks, but it latest 7 for me) hospitalization ... I'm still here so maybe it wasn't a bad choice
Last Monday was a national holiday in Japan, called "Day of the Sea" (海の日). So I went to the sea, and spent a nice day there.
Priority peter in its natural environment : very similar to me, but without the girls, and with a TI89 in hand instead of the TI84+
Three years ago, I spent the whole summer period period at hospital without any occasion to go to the sea. So every time I go to the sea is like a little revenge over my cancer
More than 11 years ago (from winter 2005 ?), I had a "donate" page stating something like "send your money and I will make cool things for Saturn on my free time".
During there 11 years, I received 15 US dollars.
And within theses 15 US dollars, I declined 10 because they were generously donated in exchange of "future help" in making a game for Saturn.
So that's something like 45 cents per year, which is also around 3.8 cents per month. I didn't checked in details, but that should be something like one Skittles per week. Not one bag of Skittles, but one bloody skittles. Per. Week
Fortunately, this era now ends, because I officially announce that I changed my donation system from "send your money and I will make cool things for Saturn on my free time" to "Send everything except money, and I will make cool things for Saturn on my free time. And even if you don't donate anything, I will make cool things for Saturn on my free time anyway." More details can be found on my donate page
And to make it clear : the motivation to change donation system is not related to money : I just spoke about money received so far in order to write something funny in my blog
I make Saturn things for fun, and not for money. As some examples, I started to design rev2f PCB in hospital room from one week after undergoing cancer surgery, and Virtual Memory Cartridge add-on for Pseudo Saturn Kai was developed and tested during my post surgery chemotherapy. Theses helped a lot to think about something else than medical things during theses times. I don't say that Kicad and gcc are a cure for cancer (), but theses were very good help however.
And to make it clearer : yes, I sell Saturn cartridges, but no I don't make a living from selling theses. I'm not even sure I produce enough carts in order to pay every-day's breakfast from cartridges sales benefits
There were no message yesterday, because nothing special done. In fact, it was a shampoo / shower free day, but hey, it was Sunday, so I do anything I want BTW, here is a picture took during yesterday typhoon :
Except rain, clouds, and some wind, there were nothing special about this typhoon, as usual in this region
Today was anniversary day : - One month from entering hospital - 4 weeks from surgery day
By reminding the first weeks after surgery, I can feel now I'm getting better and better :] And, doctor told me today that scar in my mouth is closing little by little, so that I will probably start "eat by using mouth" rehabilitation this week
